Second Block Hospitality approached us with a Latin American restaurant concept celebrating the life and legacy of the famed artist, Frida Kahlo. Calderón meaning, born to be great, needed to be inspired by the late, great artist while maintaining a unique look and feel all to itself.

As I jumped in to research, I couldn’t help but be inspired by her work. With many pieces to choose from I instantly gravitated to her self portrait featuring a hummingbird front and center. Not only that, I couldn’t help but be inspired by the overall palette of the work of art. Considered a symbol of vitality and resilience, this seemed like the perfect symbol to represent Calderón.
